The Morning People tells the story of Marcia Moss, a Midwestern mom who concedes to a weeklong vacation at the ParkLando theme parks with her husband David and their two small children. Their time spent at Disney's store-brand neighbor is just the kind of vacation she'll need a vacation from as she asks the big midlife questions, like why she and David rarely have sex, discuss their parenting differences and can't agree they should vacation on a beach.
Marcia stays sane with a daily walk, pretending to blend with the fit and friendly morning people even though she needs to lose 20 pounds and never exercises at home. Marcia is accustomed to practical fantasy. Her marriage is tested when David discovers her questionable friendship with a male coworker, putting further strain on a vacation where everything goes wrong. As the morning people reveal their true stories, a braided narrative uncovers the truth Marcia is missing in her real life.
Themes include coping with insecurity, forced family fun and why it's never a good idea to make assumptions about people. In a time when income inequality plagues 99% of Americans, the Moss family delivers a unique and refreshing portrayal of a family that feels less-than and a woman who offers more to her family than she knows.
